Objects, relationships and obligations. All can clutter our daily lives; burden us and weigh down our spirits. Just as a road becomes blocked with traffic, the accumulation of objects and obligations in our lives can provide roadblocks that prevent our essential values from circulating freely. Taking time to clear out your life – declutter – is a voluntary and mindful step that helps you let go of your beliefs and fears and give up what is unnecessary in order to find space for what you find essential.
Simple steps …. to understanding your clutter
Clutter takes many forms: physical, emotional, obligatory, temporal. The first simple step to learning how to declutter your life is to identify what clutter means to you and for you, in your own unique life circumstances. Tick all the things that clutter up your life. Add to the list if necessary. Be as specific as possible.
_____ Your schedule
_____ Your family obligations
_____ Your cupboards & storage spaces
_____ Your email messages
_____ Your free time
_____ Your office and/or work
_____ Your investments
_____ Your relatives
_____ Your friends and acquaintances
_____ Your marriage or relationship

Once you know what “clutter” looks like in your life, you can take practical steps to deal with it. In your list, identify those clutter blockages you can do something about. Write a second list, setting down what you can do to release these blockages and declutter your life. Set achievable time frames for your projects: this week, this month, this year. Repeat this exercise as often as you want.
